Parent Letter Regarding Fall 2020

Good afternoon,

We hope you are doing well and are looking forward to coming back to Susanna Wesley School in the fall.  We have missed all of our families and the children and are looking forward to getting back to school.  We have been working hard and busily preparing for the re-opening of school in the fall.

Now that Connecticut has gone through phase 1 of re-opening and is now at the beginning of phase 2, we are continuing to see the number of Covid hospitalizations on a decline.  At this point, Susanna Wesley has implemented several new guidelines, issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Office of Early Childhood (OEC).  These guidelines include additional cleaning practices and daily health screening of staff and students.

Below are some of the current guidelines from the CDC and OEC that we will be following.  As we move through the summer and get closer to the beginning of the school year, we may receive a modified list of requirements to follow.  As time goes on and the school year approaches, and if the number of Covid hospitalizations continues to decline, the restrictions/protocols will be modified as necessary.

  • No backpacks, toys or personal items from home (except for a change of clothes in a Ziplock bag)
  • Each child must bring a nut-free snack from home (in a disposable bag)
  • No water bottles from home are permitted (SWS will provide disposable cups for water throughout the day)
  • Before entering the building, each staff member and student’s temperature will be taken and hands will be sanitized.
  • All teachers would be wearing masks.
  • To ease the number of students waiting to enter the building, we will be providing staggered drop-off and pickup times before the start of school

In addition to the changes above, at this time, we are not able to offer Before School Care or After School Care.  If at some point these restrictions are lifted, these programs will be offered.

We feel confident at this point that the number of Covid hospitalizations will continue to decline and our school will be able to safely re-open in the fall.  Should there be a resurgence of the virus at any point during the school year, we would implement our distance learning program for our students.

If it is deemed necessary to close due to the virus, our teachers would continue to work hard to distance teach your child during any time that the school has to be closed.  We understand that your child does not get the same experience from distance learning as they would being at the school and with their teachers so because of this, we would issue you a ½ credit back for the time that we are running our distance learning program.

As always, your child’s health and safety are of the utmost importance to us.  Throughout the school year, we will continue to follow all of the new changes and guidelines that have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of each of our students, families and staff members.

We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Sincerely,

Roberta Cenci

Graduation On Wheels

This year due to the threat of COVID 19 we were unable to have our traditional Graduation Ceremony as we have always done in the past.  The staff and I could not let our 4’s & Prek children’s Graduation Day  go by without a celebration so we created a safe alternative called “Graduation on Wheels”  One of our 4 year old teachers, Britta Feliciano produced an IMOVIE to capture the event.  The joy on everyone’s faces really tells you how much we love and missed  each other.  Congratulations Class of 2020 We Love You!
